1 Dead Gary

[Emotion seems to flow across the murmur like a river as Ash figures out how to use it. For the most part it's chill, and energetic, but there's something bubbling just under the surface.]

Hey.

Ash here.

I was wondering if anyone else has gotten any weird messages across through this thing? Because I sure as hell did the other day.

[And she passes the message along trying to mimic it in the best way she can. the fragment of a memory, that reads as a journal entry:]

Our teams spent nearly two years attempting to anticipate what this event would mean for humanity- analyzing endless reams of lunar topography along with every known form of spectroscopy, all amounting to one hopeless conclusion: to burrow into the bowels of the earth and simply wait that whatever emerged from within would reach us there last.

As it would turn out, this one final act of humble surrender is what won the last of us the right to our own lives in these final days. Those of us alive now are not those who sought to battle with destiny and defiantly cling to a civilized existence at the surface- or even any existence at all.

It would seem that in the wake of this phenomenon, we were best served by our most base instincts, whose shame found no place to dwell. The ones who survived are those who spot their hubris and hid desperately down in the mud like rats.

[And she speaks up again, after passing on the message.]

No idea how long ago this message is actually from considering the state of things.

But I don't know if we want to be on the look out for any underground bunkers or something? Might be some answers to find.

[ Everything in her recoils. She wishes she could forget the moon, and those things that forced her to gaze up at it. ]

...do you think that's what happened here? Is that the Lunar Anamoly they might've been talking about? [ There's a sharp rise of panic, one she quickly manages to wrestle back. ] Maybe we'd be safer underground.

[ That's where humanity went, isn't it? Maybe... She's just scared. ]

From the other available entries, yes— Underground might've been their asylum.

Now it's— [ if the location ping and the endless voices meant anything— jayce swallows, rubs at his temple. ] nothing short of a nest.

[ a nest. the word sends a shiver racing down her spine, conjuring up writhing creatures piled tight in a cramped, dark space. she flounders for something to say, something more than shit. ]

So, we might have a nest full of... [ her voice wavers. immediately, she's thinking of the dream again. of that stupid, fucking moon, and those stupid, fucking creatures. ] Right under our feet, probably.

I hope it's just a feeling.

[ jayce has been part of a hivemind for . . . a few minutes. those voices at the end were from one to numerous. and it was underground. ]

Never go alone, to be sure.

Well, I had some plans to go exploring, but... [ Those are now quashed. Thank you, Jayce. ]

[ you're welcome ]

Not to say that you shouldn't. Just— [ he's not going to keep anyone from doing anything, but— ] —Like I said. Buddy system, at the very least.

No, I think we absolutely shouldn't. I mean, if it's a nest, and there's a kind of hivemind going on... [ Sharon has seen enough movies to know what happens then. ] You wake one, you wake them all.

It won't matter if you buddy up. There's gonna be more of them than you.

[ thank god she's smart. jayce approves, even though he can understand weighing risks for results. how many questionable calls has he made—? ]

Lets hope the others have as much sense of self preservation.

[ it's hard to not feel some small spark of pride at his approval. ]

Fingers crossed. Last thing I want is for someone to wake up something none of us are ready to deal with.

Let sleeping gods lie, for all our sakes.

[ jayce has spent enough time talking, looks like. speaking of gods— he's getting antsy by the time he realizes he's been hanging around for more than necessary, and decides to continue his search.

he hasn't found him yet. ]

I should get going.
