002 • resource gathering [mid week 4]

[Silco doesn't bother with a greeting, and his message is stripped as clean of emotion as he can manage. Straight to business.]

There's a building on the west side of the city. 'One World Trade Center'. It's hard to miss - I'm sure most of you have seen it.

We're planning a raid, 'we' being Johnny Silverhand and myself. While there are specific items we're looking for, I expect there will be plenty of other components and supplies available inside. If anyone is interested in joining us, you'll be welcome to take anything you might need. Those who have been helping build and maintain the safe rooms are especially welcome, as I'll be collecting supplies for them too. If you have other projects you've been working on, this may be a good chance to get materials.

Besides whatever dangers might come from the structural integrity of the building itself, I expect there will be quite a few Hosts inside, given the size of the place. Be prepared to protect yourself if necessary.

If you're frustrated by the delusion of the past couple weeks, join us, and work out your feelings through a bit of destruction.

You're certain this is a wise idea? Will you have someone with you to tend to the wounded?

( It would certainly be a shame if anything happened to Silco. )

Perhaps not entirely wise, but necessary. Would you like to come along? You're certainly the one I'd prefer to have around if there are any wounded.

[The strike of a match is obvious; its intake, clear. The sound of it, like that of slow-sucking engine that's been itching, just itching, to go, go, go.]

[Greed slides from his fire-escape perch and as his heels clap along the grate, its rail jangles back. A harsh grind of rust and iron, dragging as nipping as teeth to the bit.]

[He tosses the match over the side, letting it die on its way down.] Mn. Don't have to ask me twice, schatz. Just tell me when. 'Bout time we got a win.

[zauns]

Wouldn't do it without you. [There's a trace of fondness across the Murmur, all that Silco allows before he shuts it down again, the rest of his emotions being too complicated and difficult to allow even Greed to feel.] We'll be going soon. Who knows what this place will bring us next.

I'm volunteering.

[Now that's unexpected.]

Rest assured, if you're hoping to find an opportunity to kill me, it won't come easily.

Not like I have anything better to do around here. Sounds fun.

Not a fighter, but still a doctor, in case anyone gets injured. What're you looking for?

[Silco recognizes him, and remembers, but is choosing to pretend that there was never any such thing as family dinner, and how dare anyone imply otherwise.]

There's a decent chance we'll end up needing a doctor. And if not, better to have had one nearby just in case anyway.

And we've a long list of things, some that I don't recognize. Electronic components, many of them. Is there something you need?

[ He's always wanted to explore that place, but of course he didn't dare to do it all alone. This is a good chance. ]

Ah, you're welcome to come along, Caelus. We could certainly use your impressive talents.

[Gotta butter up the kid, he's too helpful not to.]

[ immediate and without hesitation. she doesn't sound tired, or upset. there's really nothing there but a grim sort of calm.

What is it that you two are looking for? Perhaps I can help.

I've got a long list, and some of it I don't recognize. Electronic components of various sorts, I think.

[Silco's role is that of organizer, rather than mechanic - or whatever it is Johnny might be considered.

He feels that rage, and oddly (or perhaps not) it relaxes him. Because, though Silco's kept his own tethers as tightly locked down as he can manage, he's been feeling something similar. Whether it's for the same reason, he doesn't know, but there's a certain reassurance in sharing anger with someone.

After a moment, he lets just a bit of that control slip, echoing her rage, distant but no less catastrophic.]

It'll be good to have something to keep us occupied for a time.

[He's somewhat reassured to hear Vi chime in already, but he's still particularly biting when he replies.]

If we need ways to transport supplies out, I've been working on some big rigs and getting them back up and running. Anyone who knows how to drive is welcome to use one to load stuff out.

[He and Greed had somewhat of an amicable deal, so he's... Playing nice. For now.]

No funny business. I'm still keeping an eye on you.

[zauns]

Is that so? How industrious of you.

[What's with all these kids who want to kill him coming along on the field trip? Well, it's not as if Silco can't use them, and just like Ekko's thinking - it's better to keep an eye on them.]

What sort of 'funny business' are you expecting me to get up to here? Pushing little Timmy down an elevator shaft?

[Let's be real, in this situation Little Timmy is probably Ekko.]

Sounds like fun.

[ With the kind of tired deadpan that says "fun" is more shorthand for "better than spinning my wheels overthinking all of this bullshit," but hey, you know. ]

I assume we're all going to share shopping lists before we head in? [ His own isn't terribly specific, but he'll keep an eye out for things that would fit anyone's more particular needs. ]

We all deserve a bit of fun.

[And Silco, too, means exactly that sort of 'fun'.]

Yes, that was the intention. We'll all keep an eye out for anything else that might be useful, on top of that. It might take multiple trips.

[ while silco announces and communicates with various people through the murmur, jinx lingers in the rafters just above him at the devil nest's main lobby. she had been eerily quiet even before this; she barely gave her father a wave or a greeting when he settled himself beneath her—merely fiddling with a toy dart gun she had found in her... former apartment that was left behind. he will be able to sense her energy through the tether, the anger that is slowly boiling and rising to the surface.

it's not geared towards him, of course, or any of the residents, but he can easily guess it's towards the situation they all were forced to experience. a situation that had become that one snag, a single loose thread that's been threatening to unravel everyone. and it appears that it did just that; everyone's minds are now filled with more questions than answers, with confusion sculpted on their faces as they are left with a mountain of puzzle pieces from which they can't tell what belongs where or if they belong at all. ]

[ once the toy dart is secured in its barrel, jinx aims her firearm down below—the dart spits and flies the moment the trigger is pulled, and it crashes onto the counter by her father's glass. and while she has her sight on that particular perimeter, his drink is never truly in any danger. just everything around it is. ]

[He can feel her there, and it's a familiar comfort, one that Silco had almost not realized he missed. The anger slipping along their tether is familiar, too, and echoed by his own. For some of the same reasons, maybe all of them: that false reality they endured, tangling them all up.

The dart doesn't surprise him. He wasn't expecting it, but it doesn't make him jump - Jinx has always liked to work her emotions out with a bit of chaos, and even when it causes problems for him, Silco has never really minded. He also knows she'll usually (nearly always) hit what she aims at.

Still, he takes his glass in his hand. Not quite willing to let it fall to an accident.]

Would you like to come along?

[He doesn't glance up at her. There's only one person he could be talking to, after all.]

We've gotten a few takers. Are you interested?

Well, if you need any sparks [ a snap of his fingers, causing literal sparks and a sputtering flame between them ] of inspiration, I'm happy to lend a hand.

I might just need to be reminded about the structural integrity issues. I get a bit carried away if focused on a task at hand.

We don't want to burn down the place, but it's certainly possible that your talents could come in handy. Can you use them with precision?

I already told Johnny that I'm down to help. I'll make some illusion bombs for the raid—temporary invisibility or distractions, whatever is necessary. We'll need to bring small coolers to store them; I don't know how long they last outside of cold enviroments—haven't had time to experiment.

[zauns]

Your help would be appreciated.

[And the rest - that sparks his curiosity.]

I'm sure we can find some. That sounds like a very useful ability - is that new?

[Sirius was usually good at quieting his emotions with the Murmur but his mind was a mess after returning to the present. It felt like he had relearn all those years of practice to control his emotions and his walls were clumsy at best. He had some reservations about taking his frustrations out on hosts after what he learned about their souls in the last dream, but he wanted to repay Silco for his help when he lost himself to his wraith's nature.]

There should still be some vials of healing sand at the Nest, but I can provide more for the raid if you need it.

[He can feel the bubbling mess of emotions, and Silco of course remembers quite clearly the state Sirius was in. He doesn't ask - it would ring hollow coming from him, though to a certain extent he does want to know whether Sirius is all right. The safety of the Nest and its residents is a priority, after all.]

It would certainly be useful. Is the healing sand something that you make?
