Week 1, Day 1 of Take Aim & Give
[ This Murmur post comes through edged with a jittery mix of nerves and excitement, dulled slightly by a thread of exhaustion. The image of Sharon that flickers into view carries a kind of easy, almost lazy professionalism. ]
For those who don't know me, I'm Sharon da Silva, and I'm here on behalf of Silco to ask if anyone's interested in helping build out safe rooms across the city. His idea is to have places people can duck into when things go south. Somewhere fortified, stocked with a bit of supplies, first aid, maybe a place to sleep. Not meant for long-term stays, just enough to hold out until help can get there.
You don't have to contribute to use them, obviously, but the more hands we've got, the faster this gets done. And there's plenty to do—scouting locations, reinforcing them, stocking supplies, maintaining them, marking them on maps. It's a lot of work, but these places could end up being the difference between life and death. For any of us.
[ She hesitates just a beat, then adds: ] And for those of you who are new, things will go south. [ A breath leaves her, and there's a faint flush of embarrassment that ripples through the feed. ] I once ended up locked in a bank vault. Would not recommend.
[ She leans back slightly as she starts to wrap things up. ] If you've got questions, comments, concerns—drop 'em here. Someone involved will get back to you. Or you can reach out to Silco directly if you'd rather talk to the man with the plan. And if anyone wants something in return for helping out, aside from you know, doing a good thing and helping everyone in the city, I can offer a taste of home. Canned food gets old fast, and I've gotten pretty damn good at recreating meals from people's memories.
[ With that, she flashes a small, cheeky, if tired grin, and the post cuts out. ]

Oh my, a bank vault? That sounds like a great story.
[ but then, his voice is more serious offering a sincere compliment. he sounds proud. ]
Well done here, Sharon. I can offer you supplies for first aid amongst other things if you tell what you'd like in there— although I can't read the medicine bottles and packaging, so you'll have to verify those things.

but, oh, the sound in his voice makes her flush. ] Thanks, Aven. [ really. ahem. ] We don't need anything insane—just the basics to start. Bandages, alcohol wipes, gloves, tweezers, and maybe some pain medication. We can stock them better over time if we have the items to spare.

Whatever is the toughest, or whatever others want to do the least, I'll do that. Idle hands, something something, and all that.

I've got a feeling that reinforcing the rooms will be the toughest job. You up for that?

Sharon, are you okay?
[ She sounds exhausted, even the way she smiles looks exhausted. ]

I can only cook the basics, actually. [ she makes killer boxed macaroni & cheese. ] My offer is strictly illusions—make that can of ravioli smell, taste, and feel like whatever home-cooked meal people dream of.

I'll help. I've already built safe rooms. Several. I can lend expertise and supplies.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate that, Lortel. [ Between the loss she's suffering, and her uncertainty regarding Silco, this means a lot. ] Whatever you can offer will be amazing, but don't feel like you have to rush. Take some time, okay?

( there's a brief pause before she spoke again. )
You know of a place called Happy Burger? Anyways they make a mean double-patty burger. Think you can recreate that?
( clearly she still hasn't connected that the other person whose from silent hill was sharon. )

Yeah, I can do that for you. I won't even need one of your memories to do it. I always liked the one with the fresh jalapenos. [ As if this were casual and her mind isn't racing. ] I've been craving it since I got here.
How'd you like yours? With everything on it? [ Sharon always peeled the floppy tomato and wilted lettuce off, but even that doesn't sound bad these days. ]

I thought we were friends.

But I didn't make the decision. I was running in panic, there were Hosts everywhere. I was lucky Cooper was there. His quick thinking saved us even if it meant we spent hours trapped in a tight space with glowing fungus.

[He sounds so earnest about this. You could almost imagine a puppy dog wagging its tail.]
What would you need?
no subject
We'll need a lot of things, but especially hands when it comes to fortification and setting everything up. You think you're down for that?
no subject

A lesson to always carry your mask. Never know when you might end up trapped for hours in a tight, dark space with a cowboy.

But I suppose our brain waves aren't quite the same. Hopefully, you were able to contact someone and get out before too long.

I did get a gaudy jeweled necklace out of it and I learned how to crack a safe. [ ...never mind she didn't successfully open any of them, but still! she learned! ] I think it was time well spent.

[Not like there's much else to do aside from fighting Hosts. Which is what makes having an actual purpose too good of an opportunity to pass up.]
And I don't need, like, payment or anything. But I wouldn't mind being able to have a real bowl of ramen again.
no subject
I can't promise a real bowl of ramen, but you won't notice a difference. All I'll need is a good memory of you eating a real bowl of ramen, and then I should be able to mimic everything about it whenever you want it. Scent, taste, texture. It'll be just like the one you'd had back home.

An offer that lingers there, but he can't even feel a craving in a stomach he has (though there's an annoyance in that, a frustration). He tries not to let that distract him though, as he reaches out for that connection--to Sharon, or just to this connection she's made. Faceless himself, but at least with his own voice: ]
Hey, uh... Sharon? Can you hear me? Am I doing this right?
[ Hello? Hello? Is this on? ]
no subject
It's kind of weird, isn't it? Takes some time to get used to.

Although it might be prudent to provide some kind of generalized basic aid training to everyone. Anyone might have to bandage a wound for themselves or others.
I'll have to figure out what form it could take. I might be able to just find some kind of guide in the library and make copies now that we have some power.
And include those in the kits as well.
no subject
Do you have any other ideas we could add to the kits? I figured suture tools wouldn't be a bad plan.

And I'm a decent cook, if I can get my hand on fresh produce.
no subject
It's too bad fresh produce is so rare. I think I heard some people have started a garden, but I don't know how well it's been going. You wouldn't happen to have a green thumb by any chance, would you?
